Jack Harrison

Jack first encountered yoga in the 1970s in San Francisco at a yoga school in Haight-Ashbury where he lived for a while. Five years later he was in Galway on the West coast of Ireland and practising with the Irish Wheel of Yoga. He continued to practice various styles including Iyengar and Satyananda, until, in about 2000, he was introduced to Ashtanga Yoga and did a teacher training at Yoga Thailand and later in Dublin and Clare Island, Co Mayo, the island of his maternal family. This was followed by many more trainings in Anusara Yoga in San Francisco, Paris and Paros in Greece. He began teaching in 2005. Jack has been playing music and singing since he was child. He has a Masters degree in Irish Folklore and Archaeology and now works as a consultant and lecturer in Heritage Interpretation. It never occurred to him that these three interests—yoga, music, and folklore/mythology/ archaeology—had anything to do with each other until they manifested themselves together in his teaching. Since 2007, Jack has travelled internationally to give workshops, intensives and teacher trainings and now teaches with a strong influence from the Celtic tradition. His teachings and practice explore how it is to ally movement of the body with breath, focus, mythology, poetry, music and the natural world—and the astonishing fact of being alive.
